MARS Reptile & Amphibian Rescue FAQs

What is MARS Reptile & Amphibian Rescue?
We are a rescue and adoption service that is an outgrowth of MARS. We have a staff veterinarian who checks out the animals who need veterinary services. The animals are only placed when they are healthy or if the adopter is aware of the condition of the animal and agrees to the treatment. We do not deal with any wildlife, only pet reptiles and amphibians. Occasionally we do take in arachnids because the shelters don’t have anyone else who will take them. All of our animals have an adoption fee which helps to cover our operating expenses. None of our staff receives a salary. (see our Rescue & Adoption section)

How can I surrender my pet to MARS Reptile & Amphibian Rescue?
We require the pet owner to bring the animal to us (if at all possible). We also like to get a donation with the animal as well as any caging and supplies that you might have. This helps us to care for your pet while it is here. Due to space limitations, sometimes we may not have space for your animal and you might be put on a waiting list. It is wise to start looking for a home as soon as you know you need to place your animal. Waiting until the last minute may reduce the chances of us being able to place your pet. (see our Contact section to inquire further)

How can I adopt a pet from MARS Reptile & Amphibian Rescue?
We now have an online adoption application service! You can browse our Current Pet Listings directly our website. Once you have found a pet that you are interested in, click the "Adopt Me" button on the pet's detail page. Next, you must read, understand, and agree to our terms before continuing. You are then required to fill out our online adoption application form for the adoptive pet. Upon submitting the form, an email will be sent to us with your adoption application attached. We will review your application and contact you directly to discuss your application. During busy times, we may not be able to get back to you immediately. If you have not heard from us within one week, please try contacting us via email or phone from our "Contact" section. (see our Current Pet Listing page)

What happens to the animals that MARS Reptile & Amphibian Rescue receives?
Most of the time, the animals are placed with new adoptive families. Rarely, we will keep the animal for its life and use it for our educational outreach programs. If the animal is ill, decisions are made as to whether the animal should be humanely euthanized or treated. We try to treat all animals whenever possible. (see our Current Pet Listing page)
